I’ve been talking to my students lately about all the events they can watch on TV having to do with the London 2012 Olympics. Its a good conversation starter and it gives them a chance to learn a bit of vocabulary about their favorite Olympic sports.
One page that I’ve found quite useful was the BBC’s London Olympics 2012 Guide, its chalk full of fun facts and key terms to learn not only about how the sport is played but about its history too. Click below to check it out.

For my more advance students I’ve found a nice page on the Guardian News website that has interviews with coaches and athletes discussing how their sport is played. For example , take a look at this video about the rules to Olympic swimming from the Guardian. Its great for a student’s listening skills just to be able to see what phrases they can understand and to be exposed to another native speaker’s accent.
